Training Course: How to deliver Production-Ready IT
Dennis Adams Associates is proposing to offer a new Training Courses in the near future, devoted to the subject of Production-Readiness.
If you are a senior Developer, an IT Architect, or an IT Project Manager, and think you could benefit from some of the insights which we have to offer, contact us by email at: training@dennisadams.co.uk.
Background:
In the current economic climate, IT projects must, more than ever, be able to demonstrate a return on investment. Experience has shown that development of IT solutions has often been quick, and relatively inexpensive. The real costs of projects, however, are often the hidden costs of post-implementation support and maintenance, which continues long after the development team has been disbanded. Unfortunately, the post-dot-com boom saw many high-profile instances where companies were "quick to market" with solutions which, whilst being functionally correct, were not able to handle the demands of IT Production. Cases of environments failing when the number of web hits peaked are frequent, and well-documented. Result - companies had to take their entire systems off-line, or totally re-write or re-architect them, in order to make them Production-Suitable.
What is needed, therefore, is for IT departments to train their people to take a longer-term view, and to incorporate "Production Suitability" into their thinking and designs from the start of projects, not as an "afterthought".
Attendees at this course will be given a give an outline of what questions to ask, in order to create an environment which meets stringent Production suitability criteria. By "Production Suitability" criteria we mean - Scalable , Stable , Reliable , Recoverable , Secure , Resilient, Supportable.
To create a site with this level of reliability, security etc. is a significant co-operative task, which must, by definition, involve all streams of IT - Development, IT Production, Security, Service Management, Project Control, and Processes. It cannot really be put in place without the input from all these teams.
Production Suitability requires a change of approach - a change of culture - you need to "think Production". This course will help you implement this change of culture into your own Projects, and the company where you work. As a result, you will build and deploy solutions that will Last - solutions that will give a greater ROI to your company, and reduced maintenance and administration costs to your IT department.
