MOPS Consultancy Services
The "MOPS" acronym stands for Metrics, Operational Tools, Processes and Procedures and Standards.
We consider that all four of these elements need to be in place in order to build an IT Production Department which is Strategic and forward-looking.
Examples of MOPS Consultancy Services
- Metrics: Introduction of Man-hour time capture for an Operational Team. Time should be captured by Application being supported, rather than technical skill of the person doing the work. This means that Activity can be analysed to identify "problem applications", which make a disproportional demand on the support teams. This is a major benefit in IT Production negotiations with business lines.
- Operational Tools: Implementation of a pro-active database monitoring tool to identify disk space shortfall, transactions filling the log file etc. As a result of being able to take preemptive action, the number of "panic" support calls for DBAs was reduced from 10-20 per week to one or two only.
- Processes and Procedures: Changes to the normal development project management processes enabled IT Production to gain an early "heads up" on new development projects. This not only allowed them to validate the solutions as being suitable for deployment, but also enabled more efficient management of the release and implementation schedule.
- Standards: Introduction of an architectural standards assessment process enabled the Infrastructure team to identify a potential problem application during the procurement phase. As a result of introducing "production-readiness" criteria at this early stage, the company decided not to proceed with the purchase, which would have been impractical to support in Live running.

- Project Administration and Project Office experience
- Business Delivery experience
- Practical Infrastructure support experience
- Experience implementing ITIL-inspired processes in medium-size organisation
- Basic knowledge of Agile- development methodologies such as RUP
