Presentation Abstract:
These days, there is a massive amount of consultancy and expertise available to help managers run and deploy development projects. On the other hand, there are very few consultancies that specialise in the practical challenges that managers face looking after production systems - after "go live".
Taken from over 20 years of experience in the management of production systems, Dennis Adams discusses the daily "fire-fighting" challenges of looking after IT Production systems, and how, by drawing on the "MOPS" methodology (Metrics, Operational Tools, Processes, Standards) it is possible to manage IT Production in a Strategic way

Presentation Abstract:
Confused by what ITIL is?
Heard the buzz-words, but not sure of the substance?
Scared by the prospect of being inundated with too much processes, so that your teams are unable to get any work done?
If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, then this presentation is for you.
Dennis Adams combines theoretical ITIL and quality assurance knowledge with a solid practical background in the challenges of managing IT production "on the shop floor", having been a systems manager, DBA and Technical Architect.
He is therefore well placed to not only explain the theory of what ITIL could deliver your organisation, but also to highlight the real-world traps waiting the unwary.
By treating ITIL as what it is meant to be - a framework, rather than a proscriptive straightjacket - Dennis demonstrates how a practical knowledge of ITIL can help IT Production Managers improve the work patterns and efficiency of their teams.
Finally, he shows how a pragmatic, common-sense approach to ITIL fits within an overall "MOPS" framework for improving the way IT Operations are managed.
